Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Summit Autism Center uses the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB) to design effective treatment programs for our students. ABA has been recognized by Federal and State Agencies as a safe and effective treatment for children with autism and related disabilities.

Direct Instruction (DI)

Direct Instruction (DI) is an explicit, intensive instructional teaching method that allows students of all abilities to become confident, capable learners.  We use SRA Direct Instruction programs from McGraw-Hill such as Language for Learning, Language for Thinking, Reasoning and Writing, Reading Mastery, Connecting Math Concepts, and Spelling Mastery. Students are given placement tests to determine their readiness for these programs.

Assessments

Summit Autism Center uses a variety of assessment to determine a student’s needs within our program.

  • Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS-R)
  • Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP)
  • Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS)
  • Essentials for Living
  • Brigance Diagnostic- Comprehensive Inventory of Basic Skills-Revised

Data Collection

For our discrete trial programs, we utilize Catalyst, a web-based data collection tool to collect, graph, and analyze student progress.

For our academic classrooms, data collection is taken daily through Direct Instruction protocols and academic testing.

In addition, extensive data collection is taken on a daily basis regarding each student’s behavior and communication.
